"The Arm"
It’s a Sunday morning. The preacher is midway through his sermon. Six year old Andrew is busy drawing pictures in his notebook. After a while he stops drawing and sets aside his notebook and pencil. Slowly he begins moving songbooks and Bibles that are in between him and PapPap. Pap doesn’t notice.
Once the obstacles are removed, Andrew quietly slides over and leans on Pap. He gently takes Pap’s arm, places it around himself and draws even nearer. He holds Pap’s arm touching it softly, feeling its warmth, its strength, its comfort. My imagination starts wondering, “What would that arm say if it could talk?” Would it tell Andrew, “I’m here. I will protect you. I will comfort you. You are mine.”?
Would that not be like our heavenly Father? As we remove those things that separate Him from us… As we draw near to Him . . . As we are taken in His arms and marvel at His strength . . . His love. At this time does He not say, “I am here. I will protect you. I will comfort you. You are mine.”?
