“God Works Through Broken Things”
One of my favorite songs is entitled “Broken Things” written by Ken Young and performed by the Hallal Singers. This week while looking through an old journal of mine I came across the following entry that brought the message of this song to my heart:
Thursday, July 5, 2001
Psalm 30:5 “For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts for a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night but rejoicing comes in the morning!”
I have a God who loves me enough to allow the pains of life to help me grow and though that pain hurts so much, it is only for a little while and best of all it is followed by a joyous morning.
The Pains
February 1, 1985 Dad died
November 16, 1985 PapPap Bissett died
While they were living I never took the opportunity to serve my God with these two wonderful Christian men.
The ‘Joys’ that followed
I miss them very much, even still today, and that’s okay. I was in total rebellion toward God prior to their deaths, but as a result of their deaths I looked at my condition and turned back toward God and began serving Him in ways I never imagined.
Missing the opportunity of a lifetime has made me realize not to take any time or relationship for granted. And someday perhaps…the opportunity to know the everlasting joy of serving our God, with them, forever.
God can take our ‘broken things’ and bring wonderful blessings from them…if we let Him. When your world seems to have broken and life seems its darkest remember that “weeping may remain for a night but rejoicing comes in the morning!” He will not fail in His promises.
