"Fathers"
In just a few days, June 18th, Americans will celebrate Father's Day. On this day many will pay honor to their fathers with gifts, special meals or dining out, family time together. Some of us will have fond memories of a father who has passed away. Some may spend the day wondering what it might have been like to know their father, for they have no memories of him for whatever reason. Fathers might spend the day enjoying the company of his children, whatever their age. Others may spend the time remembering a child they have lost. And still others might dream of children from whom they are separated on this day. It is a day of honor. It is a day of reflection on the relationship of father and child.
Those of you fathers who are faithful to your God will no doubt reflect on your awesome responsibility to bring your children up in the Lord. "Am I modeling the faithful servant? Am I truly making God the center of my family's life? Am I teaching them God's word? Am I leading in a way that will guide them to heaven?" These are questions you might ask yourself. And your concern does not end if your children are already grown. You no doubt spend countless hours in prayer and thought regarding the souls of your children and your children's children. You still strive to set the example. You wonder if you fulfilled your responsibility as a Christian father while your kids were young. You are a gift from God.
Those of us who are, or were, children of such fathers should be on our knees thanking God that we have what so many in this world do not. Some of us may live with deep regrets that we were not faithful to our heavenly Father while our earthly father still lived. We live with the hope of someday rejoining our loved one in heaven to show them how their lives as Christian fathers were not lived in vain. To those who are not following what they have been taught, I beg you, don't live to regret it. To those who are following what these fathers have taught . . . you are paying the highest tribute one could ever pay to them.
May God bless you, and may God bless the fathers.
