“God Is Closer Than Any Sin”

Sin is powerful.  Now that is an understatement of fact is it not?  Nothing has such a powerful impact upon our lives like sin . . . well, almost nothing.  What else could create such a wedge between us and God, us and our neighbors, and enslave us to things we do not particularly enjoy?  Sin separated man from an ideal relationship with God (Genesis 1-3).  Sin caused the death of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5).  Sin wil cause eternal separation fromGod, for some (Matthew 7: 13-14).

If the only understanding we had of sin was the one I just described, we might be overwhelmed by its power.  We might just throw up our hands in surrender and let Satan have his way with us.  I mean, if the devil is that powerful, why fight him?  Isn't it trua that I'll serve him now or later, so why not just go ahead and serve him now?

There is a verse in God's word that might give us a healthier and more victorious relationship with sin.  It is found in Psalm 119:150-151.  It reads as follows:  "Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law.  Yet, you are near, O Lord, and all your commands are true."

One lesson God reveals through these verses is that though sin is near to us, God is always closer if we allow Him.  He will always stand between us and sin if that is what we want.

Sin is powerful . . . it is deadly.  Yet, it can come no closer to us than God already is.  If we want His protection, He will not leave us.  Sin may get close, and even scare us.  But, it does not have to control us.  The distance between us and sin can only be determined by how close we allow God to be near us.
