"How to Know You're Alive..."

No response to external stimuli.  Skin color.  Body temperature.  Absence of a pulse.  Fixed and dilated pupils.  Most of us are familiar with these signs that an individual has passed away.  But are we as familiar with another sign of death?  Consider 1 John 3:14:

"We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers.  Anyone who does not love remains in death."

"Anyone who does not love remains in death."  Put this statement in the form of an equation and it would simply be:

NO LOVE FOR OTHERS = DEATH

Let's back up to verse 11.  "This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another."  Now let's proceed to verse 16:  "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers."  Finally, verse 18: "Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."

Am I truly alive?  Am I showing my love through my actions?  Remember:

NO LOVE FOR OTHERS = DEATH.

During the upcoming week, let us each examine ourselves and see how we can better show the pure, sacrificial love our Savior modeled for us.  Write down your thoughts.  Take them to God in prayer.  Ask Him that you might grow in love, in life, and away from death.
